What I Love About 'Home'

I am sitting by my picture window watching it snow and decided that today's 'Love' post would be the things I love about my home. We have been in our house for almost a year now and it has been very enjoyable.

I love that we watched it from empty lot to finished product. There is such a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction in building a house.

I love that we found a house plan we liked and made it our own. We made changes that suited our needs and desires. That means that I am able to say there is not another house just like ours.

I love the high ceilings and vaults. Decorating large walls has been a challenge (happily accepted) but I'm SO happy with them.

I love my kitchen. I have cabinets that still aren't full (just give it a little while longer). I am grateful for the amount of surface space. I love my stainless appliances and granite. It is bright and airy and there are large windows in the breakfast area that look out into the backyard and flood the kitchen with light.

I LOVE watching the deer across the street. I now know that I can never live somewhere that I won't be able to watch deer. It is such a joy. I'm hoping that I will get to see some slipping through the snow before dark. Watching deer is such a peaceful and calming thing for me.

I love my closet. I have never had enough room for my wardrobe in the past. Honestly, if I'm not careful that will happen here, too.

I love my flower beds. This is really the first house we've been in that I have the ability to garden. I had apartments in college, we rented right after we got married, and then we lived in a mobile home while we prepared to build. I'm thrilled to have dirt to play in.

I love hearing a child play in my house. I think that could make any house a home, and it is so sweet to listen to her sing and talk to her stuffed animals. I like hearing her little feet run across the hardwood (even though that usually means she just got into something she shouldn't have).

I love my 'home' because it is more than just my house. It is where I am with the two people who mean the most to me. It is where I watch ballgames with Hubby, read stories to my princess, bake cookies in the winter, snuggle up on rainy days, and look forward to coming when the days have been long. Without those things, this would just be a house.
